The MATE ROV Competition made waves at Underwater Intervention (UI) 2024, celebrating the participation of 16 talented students and showcasing the power of experiential learning in marine technology. From delivering insightful presentations to connecting with industry professionals, these students highlighted how MATE and its initiatives prepare the next generation of ocean innovators.
A remarkable collaboration between the Alpena High School (AHS) ROV Team (UR2) and a former team member turned veterinary student, Savannah Thomson, has resulted in a breakthrough invention. This partnership bridged the gap between marine technology and veterinary science, demonstrating the versatility and transferability of STEM skills and teamwork.

We are thrilled to highlight the outstanding efforts of the Jesuit Robotics team at St. Ignatius School! Their recent outreach activities showcased their championship-winning ROV and ignited a passion for technology and innovation among students.
Last month, Ali Hynd and the ROV/S5 Nautilus group from Mintlaw Academy attended the SUBSEA EXPO at the Exhibition Center in Aberdeen. The highlight of their visit was receiving the esteemed 'President's Award' from Moya Crawford, President of the Society for Underwater Technology (SUT).
On a Saturday morning in late January, middle and high school science and technology teachers from 13 schools across Massachusetts and Rhode Island arrived at MITRE's Bedford campus as curious students in a MATE ROV building workshop. By Sunday afternoon, they deployed their working prototypes in MITRE's recently opened BlueTech Lab.
This integration will foster connection and bridge the gap between today’s professionals and future innovators in marine technology.
Several honors were awarded at the 2023 MATE ROV World Championship competition that took place at St. Vrain Valley School District, June 22-24, 2023.
