The MATE ROV Competition World Championship is making waves in 2025 at Thunder Bay Marine Sanctuary in Alpena, Michigan—where innovation meets the depths of adventure!
Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary protects a nationally significant collection of nearly 100 historic shipwrecks in Lake Huron off the Michigan coast. Through research, education, and community involvement, the sanctuary works to ensure generations can enjoy these underwater treasures.
Teams attempting to qualify remotely by video for the MATE ROV World Championship must first register under the Team Registration (Coach) link above. Teams qualifying at a regional event will register for the regional competition and will receive an email invitation to advance once final scores are received.

Lodging Information
Shuttle Information
We will have shuttles available from our hotels to our event venues on the days of check-in, safety check, and the competition (6/17-06/21). Shuttle schedule HERE.
You do not need to be staying at these hotels to use the shuttle service. All MATE ROV judges, volunteers, teams, and guests are welcome to take advantage of the shuttle service. Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft are limited in Alpena, MI.
The shuttles will circle from the event locations:
