The MATE ROV Competition Oregon Regional is designated for SCOUT, NAVIGATOR, and RANGER class competition, hosted at Oregon State University, and serves as the regional hub for team development in Oregon.

The in-person event will be held on Saturday, May 10 in Newport. Some of the judged components for the 2025 competition (e.g., engineering presentations and marketing/poster judging) will take place virtually during the week leading up to the May 10 event (schedule TBD).

Regional Coordinator

Cait Goodwin is a member of the Oregon Sea Grant marine education team at Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center located in Newport, Oregon. In addition to co-coordinating the MATE Oregon Regional ROV Competition, she helps coordinate other large STEM events such as the Oregon Coast Renewable Energy Challenge, the Community Repair Fair, and student STEM expos. Cait develops curriculum and leads teacher professional development workshops focused on coastal ecosystems, coastal hazards, marine debris, and engineering solutions. She created and coordinates the Oregon Coast Quest program to encourage outdoor exploration of coastal environments and communities, and she assists in the instruction of marine science classes for youth and families. Cait holds a M.S. in Zoology from the University of Rhode Island and has worked in informal science education for more than 25 years.

Tracy Crews oversees Oregon Sea Grant’s Education Program at OSU's Hatfield Marine Science Center, including the Hatfield Visitor Center and associated youth and public programs. Tracy also coordinates experiences for students on oceanographic research vessels through the STEM at Sea program and leads teacher professional development workshops focusing on ocean sciences and marine technology. She holds a bachelor's degree in marine biology, a master's degree in marine science, and has worked in fisheries research, resource management, and education for over 30 years.

Lindsay Carroll coordinates hands-on, experiential marine education programs at the OSU’s Hatfield Marine Science Center, located in Newport Oregon. Educational programming includes K-12 lab and field experiences, summer day camps, career days as well as events for homeschool families. In addition to co-coordinating the MATE Oregon Regional ROV Competition, Lindsay assists with the coordination of several other STEM competitions for K-12 students, including the Salmon Bowl (Oregon’s Regional National Ocean Science Bowl) and the Oregon Coast Renewable Energy Challenge. She received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Marine Biology/Environmental Science and a Master’s of Science degree in Marine Resource Management.
