Company Spec Sheet (2019)
What were the other options for your team’s name? If there was only ever the one option for your name, what is the origin of your team’s name?
Luminous name was agreed on the moment it was suggested as it seemed to be going perfectly with our vision of creating and spreading "light" in different ways.
What word/phrase is most often heard when your team is working on your ROV?
"Yasta" which is an Egyptian slang word for "dude".
Which job or thing your team has to do is the hardest? Why?
Getting funding was probably one of the hardest jobs. But, with the dedication and continuous efforts, the team was able to acquire the required fund just on time for the manufacturing phase.
What is your team's go-to snack food(s)?
Shawarma as it was near our workplace and also available during the late station training hours.
What was the most celebrated/happiest/best/epic moment of success making your ROV?
When the ROV's whole thrusters, vision and pneumatic systems were tested and functioned well underwater. It was our first time to see Sobek finally coming to light. It was a rewarding moment after months of hard work.
What was your most memorable challenge/complete fail in building your ROV?
The night before the epic moment, Sobek's buoyancy was being tested underwater and soon enough it was found that there was a leakage in the e-pod that got to parts of the electric circuits. Though, by taking the right procedures quickly, the ROV was set and ready to dive the following day.
What "theme" – the scientific or physical problem to be addressed with an ROV task – would you most like to see included in future competition missions?
Solving the problem or reducing the effects of oil leakage from petrol ships. Also, doing underwater welding will be a useful yet fun challenge.
What innovation do you think would completely change how ROVs solve problems in the future?
Using artificial intelligence and machine learning methods to solve challenges. Moreover, making an AUV, which is a tetherless ROV, will improve the capabilities of the vehicle. Wireless and automated underwater exploration will for sure go a long way!
If you could swap ROVs with any team – past or present – what team would it be?
We wouldn't swap Sobek, our first ROV, for any other.
If your team had/has one, what is your team’s “theme song”?
"Warriors" by Imagine Dragons:
